COACH GALLIMORE ON GAMBLE
"This is a tremendous pickup for us, just the way she has come in the middle of
the year and fit into our team. Nikki is possibly the hardest worker we have on
our team. We have a lot of kids on our team that put their time in but this kid
is a workaholic. She just wants it so badly. She is a soccer junkie who plays
whenever she can. Nikki is versatile and defends well. You can use her in the
midfield, you can use her in the back. You can use her on the left or the right.
She has been one of the highlights of our off-season, having her as a transfer.
We don’t get that many transfer students and this year we have two and up to
this point she has been a very, very pleasant surprise."

98 NCAA Div III Champs
MACALESTER COLLEGE
In 1998, three Emerald City players
propelled Macalester College to win the NCAA Division III national championship.
Anna Bacho (Roosevelt HS), Kristen Covey (Shorecrest HS) and Amanda Righi
(Franklin HS) all played on the EC 78 girls team coached by Walter King.
When you think of college soccer, you may think of North Carolina or Virginia or
UCLA. But many former ECFC players accept athletic scholarships to play for
smaller schools as well. And many of those colleges offer top-notch soccer to go along with
their top-level academics. Macalester, in St. Paul, MN is one of those colleges.
The Emerald City parade to Macalester was actually led by Eva Farkas (Shorecrest)
who graduated in 1997 with All-American honors.
The Macalester program has been on the rise for several years. The team made the
NCAA quarterfinals in 1996 and 1997 before winning it all in '98. Emerald City
players have had a great deal of success at Macalester and Coach John Leaney is
always happy to hear from ECFC players interested in Macalester. He has watched
ECFC at the Surf Cup in San Diego and recently at the Orange Cup in Miami. He
says he finds our players to be "committed, tactically aware and skillful." He
went on to say, "if I am at a tournament the club attends, I will go out of my
way to see them play."
