Game 2 Update:
We played a very well organized and talented team, ABGC United FC, in our second game. The weather was 96 degrees with a 90% humidity level, so the conditions were hot and sweaty!
The field we played on was smaller than yesterday which made the game a little more 'tight' in the middle and as such both midfield's canceled one another out. The early part of the game saw ECFC Green create a number of chances and out pass their opponents who were a big physical team. The wind played an important part and a long ball from their defense played their outer right midfielder in behind our defense, he cut inside the box and pulled back a good ball to a late arriving midfield player who side footed home. 1-0 against the run of play...
The team battled hard and had to endure some good pressure from their counterparts, but they stuck to their task and created a number of good opportunities hitting the post and having a few good saves. Time ticked on and the opposition started to wain under the stressful conditions. A long clearance from Jackson (GK) dropped just outside of the oppositions area and their defenders failed to deal with it, it bounced into the box and under pressure Guy Thyer with his back to goal tried an outrageous revers back flick, the keeper reacted quickly and made a good save, however, he could do nothing more than to parry it into Guy's path and he side footed the ball home for a well deserved equalizer. The boys found an extra spring in their step and pushed for a winner only to be denied by the final whistle. A greatly contested game between two talented teams whos respect for one another was highlighted by the friendly discussions and wishes of 'good luck' exchanged long after the game had finished.
If we win tomorrow we are in the National Championship final, infact, if the team we tied with today beat one of the weaker teams in the group, then we will go through regardless win lose or draw. The team we palyed today and tied with need to win in order to guarantee their progression so it pans out perfect for us! If we do progress, we will be playing the team we tied with today so it will be another great game.
Thanks,
David
