M'93 Coach David Smith's Recap
Posted Sunday, July 26, 2009
We had another hard fought game today against a dogged Potomac team with some skillful players. The first half was scrappy and was probably due to the 9am early start! However, after the half time whistle we rallied, made a few substitutions and the game swayed in our favor. No sooner had we kicked off, 2 minutes in, we had the ball in the back of the net. Great work by Aaron Kovars on the left beating 2 players and providing an inch perfect cross for Hamza to sneak in front of the goalkeeper and delicately nick it through his legs... 1-0 ECFC! The rest of the game was fairly even and well contested even though the referee was well out of her depth and made it a little 'spicier' than it ought to be. But the best team won on the day and as a result we have booked our place in the National Championship final tomorrow at 8am Eastern time against a team we have already beat. They are a good team and their confidence is high after coming off a final game 6-2 victory so it will be interesting to see how it goes. The boys are looking tired but with the incentive of a national title on the line, I'm sure we will give it a good go!
