It’s not about what you have or don’t have, or where you come from. It’s about what you make of what you got and where you’re going.

A ball and a wall

Sometimes soccer is so simple that you just need a ball and a wall.

As a lot of our players finish with their fall season and head into our winter break, there is going to be a lot of time that needs occupying. Some players will transition to playing other sports for the next few weeks, some will play on indoor soccer teams, both are fantastic and hugely beneficial options. Participating in multiple sports at a young age helps to cultivate a more athletic mindset, helps to prevent burnout and avoid overuse injuries that can be sustained from playing the same sport year-round and helps to facilitate the development of higher level of social and emotional skills. (locks, 2023) While players can be benefitted from playing indoor soccer by improving their speed of play and their technical ability in tight areas, and improving their understanding of the game due to the volume of attacking and defending transitions, while playing in systems and styles that are different that of 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11 soccer.

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

For those players who during the winter break who want to relax, recharge and maybe work on their technical skills over the next few weeks, a ball and a wall is all that you need. One touch passing, two touch passing, wall juggling, receiving and turning, skill moves, prep touches, touches away from pressure can all be worked on and practiced with just a ball and a wall. Spending 15-20 minutes, 3-4 times a week will see an improvement in your technical skill work in this off season.
